Marian Lucille Lyman
(May 31, 1921 - January 3, 2017)

Services for Marian Lyman, 95, who passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Kavanagh on 56th Street in Des Moines, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Belmont Cemetery, Milo, IA.
A member of the greatest generation, Marian passed peacefully into heaven after a brief stay at the Kavanagh House Hospice on 56th Street in Des Moines. She was born in Des Moines the second daughter of William McKinley Coon and Eva May Thompson Coon. Like so many of her era, the family lost most material assets in the Depression and even lived in a tent for a few months After moving to a farm in southern Iowa, Marian graduated from Leon High School in 1939.
She had formal training as a secretary and worked her entire life until her retirement from the Veterans Administration in the early seventies. Family was very important to her and she loved the chaos of large family gatherings. If she wanted to learn how to do something she taught herself. Her knitting, crochet and needlepoint items were prized by many...what patience!
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Lyman Kuney from CA, daughter-in-law, Patricia Larson Lyman from Knoxville, TN; granddaughters, Kimberly Kuney (Juan) Valladares from Des Moines, Sarah Lyman (Matthew) Wright; grandson, Nicholas Lars Lyman from Knoxville, and cherished great grandchildren, Anissa, Jordan, Aiden from Des Moines, and Brandon and Emily from Knoxville, TN. She also enjoyed and loved many nieces and nephews. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Lyman; her son Robert Michael Lyman; and her 4 sisters and their spouses: Dorothy (Virgil) Moorman, Wilma (Robert) Smith, Catherine (Chester) Foster, and Maxine (Robert) Jones.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 6 at Overton Funeral Home with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, [http://www.overtonfuneral.com/]
