Juanita Louise Putney
(November 17, 1921 - February 2, 2017)

Services for Juanita Wirt Russell Putney, 95, who passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at The First Baptist Church in Indianola with a graveside service that will be held at 2 p.m. in the South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart, IA.
Daughter of Alva C. & Angie Dickey Wirt, Juanita was born on November 17, 1921 on the Wirt Family Homestead in Panora, Iowa.
Juanita attended a rural school through the 8th grade, then graduated from Panora High School in the year of 1939. She was a rural school teacher for three years at Hickory Grove Rural School in Dallas County, Iowa. She later worked during World War II at an aircraft factory in San Diego, California. After 22 years of working for the State of Iowa she retired.
In 1942, she married Burl Russell from which they had three daughters, Jacquie, Patsy & Meridee.
Juanita lost her first husband in September 1969 and later remarried in January 1985 to Darrell Putney. Juanita enjoyed oil painting, dancing, bowling, crocheting, card games, square dancing and a good laugh. She was known for her homemade knot cinnamon rolls and pies.
Juanita is survived by her husband, Darrell Putney, (IA); daughters, Jacqueline (Jim) Evans (CA), Patsy (Richard) Scott (IN) and Meridee (Jeff) Welsh (IL); sister, Virgie Ravetz (CA); step-daughters, Bobette (Todd) Miller (IA) and Donya (Karl) Hayes (IA); grandchildren, Erin (David) Bushey (CA), Chad (Debbie) Cotter (MO), Jennifer (Brent) McCarty (NV), Carrie Maynard (IN), Bill (Angie) Maynard (IN), Jess (Meagan) Maynard (IN), Patrick Welsh (IN), Colin Welsh (IL) and Anne Welsh (IL); numerous nieces and nephews; 6 step-grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husband; William Conrad Burland "Burl" Russell; step-son, Kevin Putney; parents; brothers, Gerald Wirt, Ralph Wirt and Keith Wirt; sisters, Edna York, Ruby Becker and Shirley Mispel.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 6 with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Suncrest Hospice and Westview Care Center.
