John Webb
(August 10, 1826 – November 3, 1904)

The Advocate Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Iowa, Thursday, Nov 10, 1904, p.3
John Webb
Died, at his home in Indianola, Iowa, Thursday morning November 3, 1904, John Webb; born in Overton county, Tennessee, August 10, 1826. With his parents he came to McLean county, Illinois, when a mere lad, there grew to manhood’s estate and married Miss Elizabeth Ruth in 1850. To them were born two daughters, Julia E. and Mollie R. The latter died in September 1884 and his wife March 25, 1891. Since the death of his wife, his daughter Julia, now Mrs. Morris, went into his home and surrounded his declining years with every cure and comfort that love could give. John Webb was a prominent figure in Indianola for almost a half a century and always a true man and enterprising citizen. For years he was associated in the general merchandise business with John McAndrews, now of Winterset, and J. C. Watson, deceased. His last active work was in Eikenberry & Co., for four or five years, at Milo, but for the past nineteen years he had been incapacitated by growing infirmities. He was a great lover of fishing and beguiled many an hour of his later life in the sport. Until recent years he was always an active member of the I. O. O. F. and his funeral occurred Friday at 3 p.m., under the auspices of that order and from the Baptist church, Rev. Simons officiating. The funeral was generally attended, more especially by the older residents, who knew him better and respected him for his many sterling qualities.
