Thomas Hightower
(March 12, 1827 – March 15, 1904)

The Advocate Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Iowa, Thursday, March 17, 1904, p.3
Thomas Hightower
After an illness of several months Thos. Hightower died at his home in this city Saturday evening and was laid to rest Tuesday at 2 p.m; He was born in Caswell county, North Carolina, March 12, 1827, and had just finished his seventy-seventh year when he was called home. Thomas Hightower came to this county in 1845, and we have often heard him and others recite incidents of pioneer life in Iowa. He was married to Miss Amanda A. Graham January 24, 1867, and she is the only one in the family to survive; their only child, a boy, died in infancy. Mr. Hightower was one of Warren county’s best citizens. He aided in organizing Otter township, the platting of old Hammondsburg, and helped build the first house in Indianola. He was always a friend to those in need; was a man of few words, and his kindly disposition always caused him to respect the views of others, and his friends were numbered by the people who knew him. The funeral was conducted by the Misses Bachelor, who have been conducting revival meetings at the Friend’s church, and it was largely attended. The most profound sympathy is extended to the bereaved wife and relatives.
