John Morgan
(September 28, 1830 – July 23, 1913)

The Advocate Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Thursday, August 14, 1913, p.8
Obituary
John Morgan was born in the state of Indiana, September 28, 1830. In 1836 he moved with his parents to Henry county, Iowa, and on to Warren county in 1851, where he resided until he passed away, July 23, 1913, at 8 o’clock p.m. He was married to Minerva Michael, November 10, 1875. To this union were born five sons and four daughters; eight of whom survive, Luella having passes away in infancy. The children are Eliana of Cartage, Oklahoma; Chas. of Helena, Oklahoma; Nellie Hockett of Okeene, Oklahoma; Mrs. Matilda Remaley of Azuss, California; and Wm., Daniel, Handie, and Mrs. Alice Hollingsworth of Milo, Iowa. He leaves one brother, Dave Morgan, also of Milo. After the death of his wife, February 26, 1902, he made his home with his son, Handie. Uncle John, as he was known by every one, was one of the oldest residents in this community, having resided near Hammondsburg for sixty-four years. He was a good and indulgent father and a kind and helpful neighbor, lending a helping hand when opportunity offered. He with his wife united with the church of Christian Union at Hammondsburg several years ago. Although his life has been taken from this to a better land, yet his memory will be cherished by a host of relatives and friends and his good deeds will continue to live in the minds of those who knew him. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. C. Thomas at the Hammondsburg church, July 30th, at ten o’clock a.m. in the presence of a large audience of relatives and friends after which the body was interred in the Hammondsburg cemetery. The relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement. We commend you to the Lord and the word of his grace. May the blessings of God be upon you, and the sun of glory shine about your heads. May the gates of plenty honor and happiness be always open to you and yours. May no strife disturb your days, nor sorrow distress your nights. May angel hands you eyelids close and the pillow of peace kiss your cheeks, and when length of years shall make you tired of earthly joys, and the curtain of death shall close about you. May the angel of God take care that the expiring lamp of life does not receive one rude blast to hasten its extinction, and finally may the blood of the Savior wash you from all impurities and at last, usher you into the land of everlasting felicity. Faithfully yours in His Name, - A. C. Thomas.
