Barbara Johnson, daughter of Henry and Eliza Allen Johnson, was born in Warren County near Norwalk on June 27, 1881 and died at the Wilden Hospital in Des Moines on Dec 30, 1954 at 73 years of age. She died just six weeks and four days after the death of her husband, Francis Chiles. Early in life she professed her faith in Christ and joined the Linn Grove Methodist Church. Later she transferred her membership to the Methodist Church in New Virginia. She was married to Francis M. Chiles on Sep 23, 1903. They had no children but in 1939 they took Robert Reeves as their foster son. Not only Robert felt their love but also their nieces and nephews. Mrs. Chiles is survived by this son and his wife, LaVera, two grand children, Dennis and Steven Reeves, two sisters, Mrs. Nora Strahan of Prole, and Mrs. Cora Stephens of Waterloo, three brothers, Ernest L. Johnson of Des Moines, Melvin Johnson and Lewis Johnson of Indianola, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. and Mrs. Chiles were close in this life and were close in leaving this life. Their deaths mean the passing of a gracious home from our midst. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at Linn Grove on Jan.1 with Rev. Leroy Moore officiating. Burial was at the Linn Grove Cemetery.
