Robert C. McNeer
(June 14, 1830 - Oct 17, 1899)

Died at his home in Milo, Iowa, Tuesday, October 17, 1899, Robert C. McNeer, aged 69 years and 4 months.
Robert C. McNeer was born in Sommerset county, Pennsylvania, June 14, 1830, and was married to Miss Clara J. McNair, October 26, 1851 and came to Illinois in 1855. From there he went to Putman county Missouri, thence to Marion county, Iowa, and to Belmont township, Warren county in the spring of 1865 where he bought forty acres of land.
By untiring labor and the assistance of his frugal wife and industrious boys, he kept continually adding to his little farm until he had one of the finest farms in that section and in 1892 had gained a competency which admitted of his giving up active farm life and moving to Milo where he spent the remainder of his life.
Some three years ago his faithful wife was taken seriously ill, was left paralyzed from her body down and many times since has been very close to death's door. It was in the ministering to her wants, lifting her backward and forwards from bed to cot or chair, and watching over her night and day, that the faithful, loving, uncomplaining husband worn himself out.
We believe we voice the sentiment of the entire community and all who knew him, in saying that Rob C. McNeer was every inch a man, with faults, undoubtedly, but a citizen of good repute, honest and upright with malice toward none, charity for all.
The funeral occurred from the Rosemount Catholic Church, conducted by Father Tegler, the priest, and Father Walden of Charlton, with Messrs. James Gilbert, Sam'l Shaw, G. W. Burgess, S. A. Wright, John Willis, and Henry Nemyer as pallbearers. It was one of the largest in the history of the church and showed the general respect in which the deceased was held.
Ten children were horn to Mr. and Mrs. McNeer and nine of these: John, George, Ellis, Osbon, Charlie, Manual, Marion and Mrs. Fortney were permitted to be present of his death as was also his brother Peter of Osceola mad his sister Nancy.
