Fred Robinson
(Oct 10, 1867 - Dec 20, 1899)

Death of Fred Robinson.
On last Wednesday, December 19, Charley Robinson received a dispatch announcing that his brother, Fred Robinson, had been shot and killed at Joplin, Missouri. The Robinsons at once left for the scene of the tragedy. The following we glean from the Daily Iowa State Register of December 22: "At Joplin, Missouri, William DeAtley shot and dangerously wounded Fred Robinson last Wednesday night. He claimed Robinson had made slanderous remarks about his sister. They had a fight on the way home from the mines after which DeAtley got a revolver and shot Robinson." Robinson was employed at the lead and zinc mines and had charge of a gang of men on one of the shifts. The assassin shot through a door, as it seems he was afraid to face his adversary. Robinson lived about four hours. Fred was raised in this vicinity and had many friends here. His aged mother has the sympathy of the entire community as also have the brothers. The remains were brought here for burial, and the last sad rites were said on Sunday, when Rev. C. S. Fair preached a feeling sermon. The last resting place of the deceased is the cemetery at the Baptist church north of Milo.
Fred Robinson was born in Warren county October 10, 1867, where he lived until he was 21 years old when he went to Colorado and stayed there four years, and came back to Warren county and remained five years. After the death of his father he again went to Colorado, from there to Missouri, where he died December 20, 1899. He leaves a mother, three brothers and five sisters to mourn his loss. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. S. Fair at Belmont Zion, Sunday, December 24, in the presence of a. large audience.
