Nancy Jane Barr
(May 18, 1853 - July 30, 1909)

Obituary
Nancy Jane Middleswart, daughter of James and Lucy Middleswart, was born in Brown county, Ohio. May 18, 1853, and came to Warren county, Iowa, with her parents in 1855, and has been a resident of Warren county ever since. Her death came very sudden and unexpectedly at her brother's home, July 30, without a moments warning to her friends, of heart trouble. Another warning "Be ye also ready." She was fifty-six years, two months and twelve clays old at the time of her death.
She was united in marriage to John A. Barr Sept. 8, 1872. To this union was born one son, Willie T. She leaves her son and wife and two grandchildren, an aged mother and five sisters, two brothers and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn her loss. She was converted and united with the Christian church at Social Plains in 1876 and has lived a consistent Christian life ever since. She realized the most important thing in this life was being ready when her Savior called and can say with the Apostle Paul "I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished my course, hence forth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day." While home was dear to her she always enjoyed meeting together and talking of the goodness of God. She was a good wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all. She had been failing in health for some time and realizing the time of her departure was drawing near, she would say "I want to go to my long home." What great satisfaction for one to know that they have a place that is heired by one who purchased our redemption. Where sickness and sorrow, pain and death are felt and feared no more for ever and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. This bereft son and other relatives are very grateful to their many friends for their sympathy and help in this sore bereavement. Funeral services were conducted by C. S. Fair at the Plainview church July 31st., after which all that was mortal of this good woman was laid to rest beside her husband in the silent city of the dead.
