Elizabeth Brown
(Oct 26, 1827 - May 10, 1907)

Gone Over the River
“One more life has gone out with the tide. One more race has been run. One more crossing to the heavenly side, where a heavenly life has begun.”

Elizabeth (Morgan) Brown was born at Friends Station, Jefferson county, Tennessee, October 26, 1827, and at the age of 79 years, 6 months, and 14 days. Her spirit was called home to rest May 10, 1907, at 5 o’clock a.m.
She suffered intensely and long, but the end came like a gentle slumber dreamless and sweet. She was married to Sanford S. Brown, February 28, 1850. To this union six children were born; the three living are Mrs. Lydia A. Manley, John W. Brown, and Mrs. Cassie Stitt of Milo, Iowa. The other three children with her companion had long since proceeded her to the home of the soul. She accepted Christ as her Savior in early life and for many years was a member of the Friends church and expressed herself as being ready to go when the Master called her home.
The long watches of the night are over and she is gone. Gone from her earthly home. Gone from those she loved. What a lonely road this is to the grave. Ten times it has been traveled from this home. Old age with its gray hairs, youth in its beauty, childhood in its innocence, have gone this lonely road. But lift the casket gently and carry it carefully, it’s mother that is going now. What a lonely place home is without mother. Everything about it reminds us of her: the room she occupied, the garments she wore, the vines she trained, the garden path, the pictures on the wall, the old arm chair. Everything reminds us of mother. But there’s a land far away amid the stars, we are told, where they know not the sorrows of time. To that land Mother Brown has found her way.
Memorial services were conducted by the writer of this obituary, assisted by Revs. Johnson and McKay at the M. E. church, May 11th. Interment at the Hammondsburg cemetery.
