Roland Simpson Logan
(May 21, 1843 - May 23, 1911)

Obituary—R. S. Logan
The subject of this sketch, Roland Simpson Logan, was born in Putman County, Indiana, May 21, 1843, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. L. Conway, near Milo, Iowa, May 23rd, 1911 at the age of 68 years and 2 days.
In 1860 he moved to Boone, Illinois, and in 1861 enlisted in Company A, 47th Illinois Infantry, serving 4 years, being honorably discharged at the close of the war. Shortly after war closed he moved to Iowa near Pleasantville. He was united in marriage to Mercy Horstman, September 26th, 1871. To this union were born two children, Ora of Milo, Iowa, and Owen, who resides in North Dakota. His wife died in 1877. He joined tha Methodist church near Pleasantville about 35 years ago. He lived a quiet Christian life not an aggressive Christian, but tried to do what he thought was right at all times and seemed ready and anxious to go when the Master called. He leaves one daughter, a son, two brothers, one sister and several grand children and a host of friends to mourn his death.
Thus another old soldier has answered the last roll call and has gone to meet the great Commander of the universe. The deceased has suffered for several years with heart trouble. Sixty-eight years and two days had passed and it was time to lay the burdens down and rest. Farewell. The faithful heart has ceased to beat; the head now rests, the willing feet no longer run at love's low call—a long farewell.
To those who are left to mourn is extended the hand sympathy by a host of friends and to those who so kindly gave their assistance, the family extend their heartfelt thanks. Short services were held at the home conducted by C. S. Fair, May 25, after which the remains were taken to the Reins Cemetery north east of Pleasantville and tenderly laid to rest by the side of the wife of his youth.
