John A. Barr
(March 8, 1848 - January 12, 1908)

John A. Barr died at his home eight miles south of Indianola Sunday night at half past ten o'clock from pneumonia. Mr. Barr was around over the farm Friday—had not been feeling well for a few days, but thought it was nothing serious until he went to bed Friday night about nine o'clock. Funeral was held at Plainview church Tuesday at eleven o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.S. Fair of Milo.
C.S. Fair was called to the Plainville church about eight miles southwest of town to conduct the funeral of John A. Barr, one of the substantial citizens of that neighborhood; last Tuesday.[burial in Shaver Cemetery]

John A. Barr, son of Lewis and Margaret Barr, was born March 8, 1848, in Vermillion county, Ill., and came with his parents to Iowa in 1854 and has been a resident of Warren county ever since. He was taken suddenly ill with pneumonia and died at his home near Cool, Jan. 12, 1908, aged fifty-nine years, ten months and four days.
He was united in marriage to Nancy J. Middleswart, Sept. 8, 1872, to this union was born one son, W. T. He leaves a wife, son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, an aged mother, five brothers, five sisters and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn his loss. He was converted March 1, 1894, he had an unusually bright conversion and lived a consistent Christian life. He realized the most important thing in this life was being ready when his Savior called, and can say with the apostle Paul, I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished my course; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day. While home to him was the dearest place on earth yet he always had a smile and good word for every one. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father and will be greatly missed by all. He told his family the gates of heaven were open and he could see in, he talked to his friends and had them sing and pray and died happy in a Savior's love.
The funeral services were held at Plain View church conducted by Rev. C. S. Fair, of Milo. The text was chosen from Rev. 13 :14 ; Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord; from henceforth, yea saith the spirit that they may rest from their labor and their works do follow them.
