Henry Clay Sandy
(Nov 26, 1845 - Sep 23, 1907)

In Memory of H. C. Sandy
Strange it is this life we live, so full of beauty, so full of mystery, so wonderful, at every point takes on a familiar face. We accept its many features as common place and they make little impression upon us. There is one phase of human experience with which we can never grow familiar with; although one of the most common, it never fails to impress us; that which we call death. Only when we stand in its awful shadow do we fully realize the brevity of the little hour of life which is at most a schooling for something beyond. No matter how well the pulse may beat today or how deep an interest in the things around us, no life is so important but soon must yield to the chilling blast of death. It is from the last scene that we best learn how sublime it is to live.
Henry Clay Sandy, second son of William and Catherine Sandy, a quiet sojourner along life’s pathway was born near Gospart in Owen county, Indiana, Nov 26, 1845, and died at his home in Milo, Iowa, Sept 23, 1907, age 61 years, 8 months, and 27 days.
He came to Warren Co., Iowa, with his parents in 1850 and located at Sandyville where he grew to manhood. May 10, 1866, he was united in marriage with Miss L. A. Hook of Wheeling, Marion co., Ia.
To this union one child was born, Dr. Aural A. Sandy of Washington, Ia. Bro. Sandy moved to Belmont Township in the spring of 1877, where he resided on the farm until six years ago when he retired from active life, and moved to Milo. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in the year 1886 and retained his connection with the church until the Master called him home. He was a good citizen, a consistent Christian, an honest man of exemplary habits, and had a host of friends. Living he was beloved and respected. Dying he leaves to mourn his loss a loving companion, one son, two grandsons, one full brother, two half brothers, four half sisters, an aged step mother and numerous other relatives. Funeral services were conducted by the writer, assisted by Rev. McKay, at the home Sept 25th, in the presence of a large and sympathetic audience, after which the body was taken to the Sandyville cemetery for interment.
