George W. Cunningham
(April 30, 1842 - August 8, 1907)

George W. Cunningham was born in Scott County, Indiana, April 30, 1842, and died August 8, 1907, being 65 years , 3 months, and 8 days old. When 9 years of age he with his widowed mother emigrated to Illinois. On January 16, 1862, he married Amanda Swaim. To this union eight children were born; four boys, and four girls. Six of whom, with the mother, still survive. He was converted with the Newlight Christian church in 1871, in which he lived faithful till the end.
He moved to Iowa in 1892 and settled at Liberty Center where he has since resided. He was a kind husband, an affectionate father, in the broadest fullest sense of the term a good man and will be sadly missed by a large circle of relatives and friends. But we do not mourn as those that have no hope, for he has only passed “through the valley of the shadow of death.”
“Passing out of shadow into a pure light, stepping behind the curtain, getting a clearer sight, passing out of the shadow, into eternal day. Why do we call it dying – this sweet going away.”
Funeral services were conducted by C. S. Fair at Liberty Center, Aug 9th, after which the flower laden casket containing all that was mortal of this good man was consigned to the narrow limits of the tomb.
