Marie Victoria Leland
(June 12, 1842 - June 1, 1906)

Marie Victoria Leland, daughter of Joseph and Caroline Leland, was born in Chicago, Illinois, June 12, 1842, and died at her home in White Breast township June 1, 1906, age 63 years, 11 months, and 19 days. She came to Iowa with her mother and step father, James Kimzey, in 1855. Though born with a defective body, she was very kind and helpful to others, particularly fond of children, a devoted Christian character. She filled her mission in life as best she was able. “There is a home for weary souls, by sin and sorrow riven. When tossed on lifes tempestuous shoals, where storms arise and billows roll and all is drear, ‘tis heaven.”
Funeral services were conducted by C. S. Fair at Plainville Chapel, June 2nd, after which all that was mortal of this unfortunate woman were consigned to the narrow limit of the tomb.
