David W. Slone
(May 12, 1860-May 28, 1907)

David W. Slone was born in Warren County, Illinois, May 12, 1860, and departed this life at his residence in Pawnee, Oklahoma, Tuesday, May 28, 1907, at 1 p.m., aged 47 years and 16 days.
He was a son of William and Jane Slone and came to Iowa with his parents when a mere child and the greater part of his life was spent on the old homestead in Belmont township. About three years ago he disposed of the farm and moved to Oklahoma and engaged in the mercantile business.
On August 31, 1881, Brother Slone married Dora E., daughter of Warren and Sarah Duncan. To them was born one daughter, Maude, wife of C. R. Motherhead, of Milo, Iowa.
He was converted about 20 years ago and united with the Church of Christ in Christian Union at Plainville Chapel and for a number of years was an active worker in the Master’s vineyard, afterwards he drifted back and neglected duty as so many do, but during his fatal illness, being conscious of the fact that he must soon leave this world, he expressed himself to those near and dear to him as having no fear of the future.
He leaves to mourn his sudden demise, a loving companion, one daughter, an aged mother, three sisters, Mrs. Rube Griffin, of Mercy County, Missouri; Mrs. Lizzie Hurley, and Miss Cora Slone, of Indianola, Iowa; two brothers, Joseph Slone of New Plymouth, Idaho, and Felix Slone of Osceola, Iowa, beside numerous other relatives and a host of friends. His father and one brother having preceded him to the home of the soul.
Thus another home is broken up and many hearts made sad. Death is always sad. The death of our friend was particularly so. It seems but yesterday the light of hope and happiness was in his eye and the glow of health on his cheek, but very suddenly failing health came to him and from the first moments all that loving hands could do was done. All that medical aid could give, all the assistance that loving relatives and anxious friends could bestow were his; but in vain, like a flower he faded and is gone from among us. The body accompanied by the family arrived in Milo, May 29th, and funeral services were held at Plainville Chapel, May 31st, conducted by C. S. Fair and Rev. J. L. Johnson.
