Melvin Lee Turner, 88, son of William Andrew and Minnie Maude (Lake) Turner was born Nov. 22, 1898, and passed away Monday, June 1, at the Lucas County Care Center in Chariton.
He attended the Primrose Country School.
On March 31, 1921, he was united in marriage to Leta Valinna Hickman. To this union three children were born: Orville of Osceola, Mildred Amos of Indianola and Donald of Lacona.
He lived and farmed all of his life in the Lacona community, actively farming until the fall of 1976.
Survivors include his wife, Leta; Two sons, Orville and wife Joyce and Donald and wife Velma; one daughter, Mildred and husband Harold Dean; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and one brother, Roy Turner.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; one sister, Katie; and one brother, Paul.
Services were held at the Liberty Center United Methodist Church, Thursday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. Officiating was the Rev. Larry Pauley and the Rev. Jerry Oliver.
Arrangements were made by Mosher Funeral Home, Lacona. Burial was in the Liberty Center Cemetery.
