Bett Marie (Town) Van Zee, 73, of Clive passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines; visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Betty was the first baby born in Warren County on January 1, 1935. She shared many happy memories of growing up in Carlisle, Iowa with close friends and an extended family of cousins. After graduating from Carlisle High School in 1953, she worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines. While visiting San Antonio, Texas in 1956 with a friend, she met Gerald Van Zee from Lacona, Iowa who was stationed at Kelly Air Force Base. They were united in marriage on May 19, 1957 and lived in Carlisle from 1959 until 1996 when they moved to West Des Moines. Always interested in the medical field, Betty worked for a number of Des Moines-area physicians as an office manager. For several years she and Jerry spent the winter months at their vacation home in Chandler, Arizona. Betty greatly enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member of T.T.T., the Des Moines Women's Club, Red Hat Society, and was a past member of the Carlisle T.G.G. club.

Betty is survived by her husband, Jerry and two daughters, Ann Van Zee and Kara Miner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma Town-Lowe and Gilbert Town.
