William Orville Thompson, son of John and Ora Hess Thompson, was born Sept. 29, 1897, in the Cool Community, Warren County. He lived his entire life in the Cool, Green Plain and Liberty Center communities. He died June 2, 1981, at the age of 83 years.
His family was affiliated with the church at Cool, where he was baptised in the creek in his early years. He attended school at the West Liberty county school. His manhood was spent farming.
He was a member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church, where he participated in the building projects and upkeep. He also served as a Liberty Township Trustee and on the Liberty Center School Board.
On Jan. 14, 1920, he was united in marriage to Margaret Bissett who died in June, 1921, shortly after the birth of their son, John B.
On Nov. 25, 1927, he was married to Hazel Leona Kimzey. To this union was born one son, Philip K.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife Margaret, an infant sister, a twin brother, his brother Don Thompson and sisters, Lela McKee and Vila Overmyer.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; son, Philip, of Liberty Center, and son, John B.; 4 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 5, at the Liberty Center Methodist Church. Interment was at the Indianola IOOF Cemetery.
