Obituary from The Record-Herald and Indianola Tribune newspaper, Indianola, Warren County, Iowa, USA on 6-6-2001:

Darrell Avery Stearns, 82, of Milo died of pneumonia Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services were held June 5 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lacona, of which he was a member, with burial at Indianola IOOF Cemetery.

Mr. Stearns was born in Des Moines and had farmed between Milo and Melcher-Dallas for about 18 years before moving to Milo. He worked as a railroad clerk for Rock Island Railroad for 27 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Model T and Model A Ford clubs and John Deere 2-cylinder Club. He enjoyed restoring old cars and tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda; a son, Ronald of Milo; daughters, Janet Arey of Tulsa, Okla., and Judith Lepley of Milo; a half brother, Eugene Stearns of Bangor, Maine, and a half sister, Margaret Schinstine of Colorado Springs, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mosher Funeral Home in Milo handled arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
