June Nadine Ten Hagen passed away on February 2, 2009, at Kavanagh House on 56th St. in Des Moines after a short illness.
June, known to many as Nadine, was born to Wayne and Grace Steadman on June 15, 1923, at Des Moines General Hospital. She grew up on the west side and attended Callahan Jr. High and Roosevelt High School. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Wave nursing corp during WWII, and a life time member of the Eastern Star and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
June and her husband Max fulfilled their dream in 1961 and purchased a large farm south of Des Moines where they spent the next 35 years raising five children and black Angus cattle. Their cattle were renowned throughout the Midwestern states as some of the finest show and breeding stock available.
June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and by a brother Marvin Steadman. Left behind to celebrate her life are her children Tom (Sally) Ten Hagen, Dennis Ten Hagen, Candy (David) Offchiss, Cindy (David) Bowlin, and Michael (Leann) Krick; a sister Mrs. Kay Benderoff; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends Doug Hall, Terry De Maray and Mike Ripperger.
There will be a reception and celebration of her life from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday February 7, 2009, to be held at her home for any and all who would care to attend.
Burial of her cremains will be scheduled at a later date at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kavanagh House on 56th St. in memory of our mother and friend to all.
