Obituary from an unknown newspaper, date unknown, photographed from an Obituary Book at the City Library in Indianola, Warren County, Iowa, USA:
Andy Jacob Smith, son of Thomas and Electa Douglas Smith, was born May 18, 1892 near Carlisle, Ia., and died at the Mental Health Institute at Clarinda, Ia., June 13, 1967 at the age of 75 years and 26 days.
He attended school at Osceola, Ia. Later he lived in Nebraska, Texas and Kansas.
He returned to live near Carlisle in 1916. In 1917, he was united in marriage to Effie Milligan. They moved to Minnesota in 1920. In 1929 they moved to a farm about 10 miles southeast of Indianola where he continued to live until he entered Iowa Lutheran Hospital Feb. 6, 1967 where he spent two months. He transferred to the New Haven Nursing Home in Des Moines and then to the Mental Institution in April.
A farmer all of his life, he was mechanically inclined, and was good at repairing tractors and machinery.
Besides his wife, Effie, he is survived by four daughters and two sons. They are Mrs Catherine Porter of Pico Riveria, Calif., Mrs Gladys Chumbley and Mrs Rex Boucher of Indianola, Mrs Garrison Lamb of Des Moines, Glen of Lucas and Gerald of Indianola. There are also 16 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Carleton L. Briggs June. 17, 1967 at the Overton Funeral Home. Interment was in the Carlisle Cemetery.
