Jeannette was born September 22, 1917 in Mills County, near Oakland, Iowa to Frank and Nina (Ginger) Shook. She graduated from Strand High School in 1935 and graduated from Simpson College. Jeannette met Eldon Nutting in 1941 on the Indianola Square. They were married on March 20, 1943 in Creston, Iowa.
She taught school in Red Oak for 2 years, then moved to Oregon where she taught for 2 years before moving back to Warren County and teaching in a one room school house and Milo 3rd grade. Jeannette and Eldon were blessed with 2 boys: Frank and Jon. Jeannette took a break from teaching to raise her boys and then went back to Simpson to update her teaching degree and taught Southeast Warren 3rd grade in 1965 and retired in 1982. She loved children and teaching. Many students remember her caring ways and always making them feel special.
Jeannette loved people and could tell you all about them within 20 minutes of meeting them and recall all the details many years later. She was very selfless and was always thinking and concerned for others. Her family was a great joy; she loved knowing what was going on with her grandchildren and treasured the times they spent together.
Jeannette was a board member of the Milo Public Library, member of the Milo United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school for many years relating her many life experiences. She also belonged to the Milo Study Club, and enjoyed traveling south in the winter with Eldon after they retired.
Jeannette passed away July 29, 2011 in Indianola at the Good Samaritan Center after just 3 days of being a resident there. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Eldon in January of 2010, and a brother Lester Shook. She will be greatly missed by her sons: Frank (Lori) and Jon (Cathy); and grandchildren: Samuel, Seth, Sarah, Joshua, and Emily all of Milo. Also surviving are many relatives and friends.
