Funeral services for Giles Edwin Seuferer, 91, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Lacona.
Giles was born on July 19, 1922 to John and Anna Seuferer of rural Bauer. He was the fourth of eleven children.
After leaving school during the depression, he took a job in northern Iowa, where he met Blanche Sande. They were married in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, on November 18, 1935. They were blessed with ten children. He began farming east of Lacona in Oak Ridge, working in a coal mine with his dad in the evenings, until he was able to farm full time. He later worked short periods of time at the Veteran's Hospital in Knoxville and the Lacona COOP.
Giles is survived by his wife, Blanche of Lacona; nine of his ten children, Bob (June) of Lucas, Mervin (Pat) of Milo, Jerry (Kay) of Chariton, Dean (Vicki) of Lincoln, NE., Roger (Ann) of Lacona, Marilyn (Frank) Smith of Indianola, Sharon Seuferer of Lacona, Jeanette (Steve) Jetter of Indianola and Rose Wood of Indianola; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Lorraine Johnson, Beatrice Osborn and Hildred Osborn.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine Davis; his parents, John and Anna; his brothers, Nilus, Gervase, Samos, Richard and Floyd; and his sisters, Iona Ohnemus and Gladys Dittmer.
