Vitus John Schurman passed away May 18, 2006 at the Westview Care Center in Indianola. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 22, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Milo, with burial in the St. Mary's of Rosemount Cemetery. Open visitation will begin after 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rosemount Memorial Fund.

Vitus was born in Lacona and farmed near Lacona. He enjoyed farming and music, especially playing his violin. Vitus belonged to the St. Mary's of Rosemount Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve in 2002; two sons: Roger and Darrell, brothers: Marvin and Virgil, and a sister Bertha Wadle.

He is survived by his sons: Jerry (Linda) Schurman of Chandler, AZ and Stephen (Bev) Schurman of Lacona; his daughter Eileen (Stan) Thompson of Indianola; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret Dittmer and Geneva Gass; and sisters-in-law Catherine Schurman and Rosella Schurman.
