Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 4-15-1988:

Herman Joseph Schurman, 73, of 4200 62nd St., Urbandale, died of a Stroke Thursday at Veterans Administration Medical Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Schurman was born in Lacona and lived in Des Moines for 40 years. He retired in 1979 as an engineer for the Des Moines Public Schools, working at North and East high schools. He was a member of the Catholic church, American Legion Post 165 of Indianola and the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy; a daughter, Rosemary Glasgow of Urbandale; a brother, Edward of Milo; three sisters, Marie Wadle and Evelyn Riche, both of Indianola, and Hilda Gowin of Montezuma; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Westover Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
