Edward Schurman, 87, of Lacona, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, of heart disease at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Services were held Nov. 8 at St. Mary's in Lacona, with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mr. Schurman was a lifelong resident of Warren County and was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, in 1984.

Survivors include five sons, Bernard, Loren and Richard, all of Des Moines, and Wayne and Dennis, both of Lacona; a daughter, Marlene Schurman of Phoenix; two sisters, Hilda Gowin of Montezuma and Evelyn Richie of Indianola; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
