Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 9-10-2004:

Donald R. Janes, Sr., 75, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, September 11 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens.

Donald was born August 25, 1929 in Madison County, Iowa. Don and his wife of nearly 54 years, Wanda, raised nine children in Indianola before moving to Phoenix in 1981. The couple recently moved back to Des Moines.

Don served in the U.S. Army in the late 1940's. He worked as a truck driver and was a retired Teamster. Don enjoyed spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all of them.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda of the home; children, Vicki (Richard) Strang of Des Moines, Jeanne Butler of Des Moines, Dixie (Tom) Bowlin of Indianola, Rox Anne (David) Wark of Las Vegas, NV, Mark (Karen) Janes of Bondurant, Donald R. Janes, Jr. of Des Moines, Misty (Darrell) Miller of Rio Rico, AZ, Rodney (Bonnie) Janes of Aurora, MO, and Tammy (John) Brinkley of Colorado Springs, CO; 28 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one brother and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; son, Steven; and Daughter, Melody.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in care of his family.
