Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 10-14-1993:

Howard Jeffries, 71, of Indianola died of a heart ailment Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical center in Des Moines. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Indianola IOOF Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Jeffries was born in Melcher and moved to Indianola in 1967. He retired after 32 years with Deere & Co. Des Moines Works in Ankeny, was an Army veteran of World War II and had been a member of United Auto Workers union and Indianola American Legion post.

Surviving are his wife, Frances; a son, David of Melcher-Dallas; a step-son, Larry Dorrell of Sandy, Utah; three daughters, Jacque Leonard of Carrollton, Texas, Trudy Mott of Altoona and Kathy Bauer of Melcher-Dallas; a stepdaughter, Joyce Turner of Osceola; a sister, Margaret Hayes of Lubbock, Texas; 13 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at Overton Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
