Velda Helena Samuelson, 92, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk. She was born in Lacona, Iowa on March 5, 1919 to Frank and Ella (Schmidt) Jacobs. She was married to George Samuelson and they were long time residents of West Des Moines. George preceded her in death in 2005. Velda stayed at home to raise her family and she greatly enjoyed quilting. She and George were also devoted foster parents to new born children who needed loving care.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Scripture Service beginning at 7 p.m. at the Brooks Funeral Care Chapel at 7975 University Blvd in Clive (please note the 73rd Street intersection is closed.) A Mass of Remembrance will be held on Saturday the 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines. Burial will be at a later date at the Resthaven Cemetery.

Velda is survived by her son: David (Marcia) of West Des Moines, two daughters: Georgia (Ken) Campbell of Lorimor, Mary (Roger) Hollingsworth of Des Moines, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two sisters: Frances Hoffman of Lacona and Anna Maye Pederson of Ankeny. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five brothers, memorials may be directed to the family.
