Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 2-21-2013:

Services for Edna Kathryn Hukill, who passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013, will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 25 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Edna, the daughter of Ober Woodson Putnam and Mabel Clair Scott was born August 22, 1922 in Indianola at the Indianola Hospital. She was the youngest of three children and grew up in Indianola attending Hawthorn Elementary and Indianola High School. After high school, she attended Simpson College. While in high school, she met Earl Dean "Tex" Hukill and they married on July 25, 1942 in St. Louis, MO. She followed Tex while he served in the United States Army.

In 1957 they purchased the farm where they lived and farmed for many years. In 1981, Tex and Edna retired and purchased a home in Indianola on Norwood Street; they later purchased their townhome on Buxton in 1999. In retirement, Tex and Edna spent many years wintering in Sarasota, FL in a mobile home they purchased and enjoyed watching spring training for baseball, visiting the Ringling Brothers Complex and socializing with other snowbirds.

After Tex's death in February 2001, Edna decided to erect a memorial fountain in Buxton Park where she loved to walk; across the street from her home and at her alma mater, Edna cherished walks and visiting the memorial almost daily. When people would stop by to pay Edna a visit, Edna liked to take them with her on these walks to tell stories about the park and visit the fountain in the Hukill/Putnam name, the peaceful gazebo where she witnessed many couples marry and the ever-changing beautiful gardens. Edna continued to winter in Florida with the help of her family and friends. She also loved to quilt, play bridge, keep her mind sharp with word puzzles, eat out with her friends, and attend her coffee group at Crouses. Edna was a member of the Indianola First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of PEO, Woman's Club, and a Tridelt.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers Roy and Chuck, and a nephew Steven. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joanne (Roland) Amos; nieces, Kathryn Joanne Spick, Merry Jane Derrow, Eleanor Mitchell, Julie Jackson and Nancy Wilson; nephews, Kent Putnam and Rodney Amos; and several great great-nieces and nephew.

Visitation will be held 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, February 24 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be given in her name to Buxton Park. Online condolences may be made at www.overtonfunerals.com .
