Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 8-24-2011:

Memorial service for Richard "Dick" Hornaday, 78, who died Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 27 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday prior to services. Burial of cremated remains with military rites will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indianola.

He was a well known fixture of the Indianola business community, owning Hornaday Plumbing & Heating for 50 years, working with many wonderful friends and family. Dick was a good uncle to 4 nephews. He was a 55 year member of the American Legion Post # 165 and a long-time supporter of Kiya Koda Humane Society (Bow Wow Palace) in Indianola. He enjoyed fishing, trips to the casino, scrapping metal around town and auto racing. He was known for bringing doughnuts and dog treats to friends in town. He will be missed by his friends at Crouse Cafe. Dick will leave a chair empty at his friend Kevin Putney's auctions. For 40 years Dick enjoyed having his son Richie visiting him in August.

Dick and Richie are forever thankful for their dear friend, Berne Cozad.

He is survived by his son, Richie and his nephews and a multitude of good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Olive and beloved brother, Bob "Crow" Hornaday.
