Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 12-27-2012:

Beloved daughter of Myron and Bernice Shetterly, born July 19, 1941 in Carlisle, Iowa. Mary Marie was raised in Hartford, Iowa, and she graduated from Hartford High School. Always fun loving, full of spirit and was her own person with a great big laugh. She and her two sisters sang on the WHO Iowa Barn Dance for seven years as the Shetterly Sisters and appeared on The Lawrence Welk Show in March of 1957. The three sisters sang professionally for two years as the MarLindaKay Sisters. She married Ted Gordon of Swan and they had two children, Paula and Paul. Mary worked for the U.S. Post Office as a mail carrier for 25 years before retiring. She later married Donald Purdy who preceded her in death.

Her loving family left to mourn her passing, Paula(Dean) Weeks, Paul (Lynette) Gordon. Grandchildren, Kate (Fred) Hood, Kirsten (Tye) Furnal, Megan Harvey, Kenyln Gordon, Konner Gordon. Great-Grandchildren, Kaleigh, Kaedence, Princeton, Freddie and baby Furnal due in March. Her sisters, Carolyn Nicholson, Barbara Cox and Catherine Isley. Brothers, James and Robert Shetterly along with nieces and nephews and many friends. Preceding her in death were her husband Don, parents Myron and Bernice, Sister Linda Clarke, brothers George and Larry Shetterly along with her very loved dogs Zoe and Charlie and her four birdies. Mary's favorite saying when people gathered was always, "The More The Merrier"! She will be dearly missed by all. A Memorial Gathering for Mary will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Peterson Funeral Home In Carlisle.
