Marvin James Borchert, 82, died September 21, 2010, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. A visitation will be held on Saturday morning at 9 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 4003 2nd Ave. in Des Moines with services following at 10 AM. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lacona, Iowa. Everyone is invited to a luncheon at the St. Paul Lutheran Church following the committal service. Rev. Thomas Cole will officiate. Memorials may be made in Marvin’s honor to the memorial of your choice.
Marvin was born April 22, 1928, in rural Lacona, to Fred and Florence Willis Borchert. Marvin served in the United States Army. He married Dorothy VanderEcken on January 22, 1950. They lived in Des Moines most of his life where he retired from the US Postal Service.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and enjoyed working with stained glass, playing cards with family, and golfing. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 4 sisters: Gloria (Floyd) DeWitt, Grace (Virgil) Hartz, Ilene Borchert, Joan (Myron) Breese; 3 brothers: Leland (Norma) Borchert, Edgar (Marlene) Borchert, and Larry (Pat) Borchert; sister-in-law Maxine Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
