Mildred J. Haltom, 84, of Indianola, IA., passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2003 at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, June 30 at the Mosher Funeral Home in Lacona, with burial at the Newbern Cemetery in Lacona.
Mildred J. Haltom was born on August 25, 1918 in Lacona, IA, the second child of six, born to George F. and L.V. (Stokesbury) Haltom. She attended high school in Lacona and graduated from Simpson College, where she received her teaching degree. After teaching elementary school in the Lacona area, she worked for Boeing Aircraft in the state of Washington during WW II. Mildred never married. Following WWII, she returned to teaching, having taught over 40 years, teaching in the Waterloo/Cedar Rapids area since 1952, retiring in 1984. Mildred was an avid L.A. Dodgers baseball fan, enjoyed summer travel, country music and bowling.
Survivors include two sisters, Lila Lee Williams of Lacona and Dolores Roby of Indianola and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bryant and Darwin and one sister, Hazel Marie Ragan.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29 at the Mosher Funeral Home in Lacona, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. that evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianola Good Samaritan Center or the Lacona Methodist Church.
