Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 1-9-2005:

Virgil A. Akers, 96, of Beech died on January 7, 2005. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2005 at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will be in the Sandyville Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion Post 165 and VFW #4123.

Virgil served our country in WWII, and then painted houses for 31 years with his brother and he also worked as an auto mechanic in Knoxville. He was a member of the American Legion #165 and the Fifth Armed Division Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; brothers, Orville and Harvey; and his sister, Velma.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Lucille Champlin of Indianola, Helen Goode of Indianola, and Ellen Goode of Hartford.

Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of service on Monday at Peterson Funeral Home.
