Services for Dean Hoch, 67, will be Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lacona. A rosary will be held at 5 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona on Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association. Dean worked for John Deere Ankeny Works for 30 years retiring in 1994.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Marylee; children: Kyle (Lori) Hoch of Early, Kelly (Gerrit) Ahr of West Des Moines, Kristy (Dennis) Hess of Fonda, and Kurt (Heather) Hoch of Pleasant Hill; 11 grandchildren: Daniel, Matthew, Jenna, Hannah, Michael, Madisen, Markus, Ashley, Travis, Landen, and Ireland; a great grandson Mayson; and siblings: Lillian (Jim) Thill, Luella Nichelson, Evelyn (Leland) Rodgers; Clemmie (Leona) Hoch, Kenneth (Sheryl) Hoch, Gene Hoch, Carolyn Wallace, and Marilyn (Vane) Orey; along with many relatives and friends.

Dean was born August 13, 1942 near Bauer, Iowa to Clem and Agnes Schneider Hoch. He attended Bauer School through the 8th grade and then went to Lacona and graduated from the first SEW class in 1960. On December 1, 1962 he was married to Marylee Wallace. They were blessed with four children: Kyle, Kelly, Kristy, and Kurt.

Dean worked for John Deere Ankeny Works for 30 years retiring in 1994 and belonged to the UAW Local 450. Dean enjoyed many things including camping and was a member of the Good Sam Hill Billies Camping Club for 35 years. Dean and Marylee went to many music festivals, the Old Thresher’s Reunion, and the Iowa State Fair. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle and rode RAGBRI several times.

He enjoyed the outdoors, farming, and raising sheep. Woodworking was also a special talent he spent many hours with after retiring. Locally he was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and devoted much time to helping his children with school activities. He coached his girl’s softball teams and also helped run the chain gang at the SEW football games for many years. His grandchildren all have fond memories of ice cream time every night before bed. And it can’t go without mention that he loved the St. Louis Cardinals and taking his family to many Cardinal games.

Dean passed away April 3, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clem and Agnes; brothers: Walter and Marvin; and a sister Julia Scheve Snyder.

Dean is survived by his wife of 47 years Marylee; children: Kyle (Lori) Hoch of Early, Kelly (Gerrit) Ahr of West Des Moines, Kristy (Dennis) Hess of Fonda, and Kurt (Heather) Hoch of Pleasant Hill; 11 grandchildren: Daniel, Matthew, Jenna, Hannah, Michael, Madisen, Markus, Ashley, Travis, Landen, and Ireland; a great grandson Mayson; and siblings: Lillian (Jim) Thill of Lacona, Luella Nichelson of Indianola, Evelyn (Leland) Rodgers of Olpe, KS, Clemmie (Leona) Hoch of Bauer, Kenneth (Sheryl) Hoch of Lacona, Gene Hoch of Des Moines, Carolyn Wallace of Knoxville, and Marilyn (Vane) Orey of Indianola; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
