Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 4-11-2005:

Wilfred "Willy" Jacob Bauer, 78, of Cedar passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005 at the Mahaska Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, April 13, 2005 at Garland-Van Arkel- Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will in Old White Cemetery.

Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 12 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to greet visitors. Memorials may be made to the Family.

Wilfred Jacob Bauer, son of Leo and Mary Wadle Bauer, was born August 30, 1926 south of Melcher, Iowa. He served in the Marines and then the Army, finishing his service in 1952. In 1961 he married Frances Williams who died in 1984. They lived in Des Moines, where he worked as a life insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha, for the City of Des Moines and then for Massey Ferguson, retiring in 1981. On February 13, 1995 he married Voleda "Vicky" Barrows Robertson in Kansas City, KS and they made their home in Cedar.

Willy loved hunting, fishing, discussing politics and the Chicago Cubs; he didn't know a stranger and spoke with everyone.

Willy is survived by his wife, Vicky of Cedar; his son, Steve (Mary) Bauer of Des Moines; four stepsons, Don (Mollie) Hawkins of Freetown, TX, Alan (Phyllis) Robertson of Keosaqua, Mike (Mary) Robertson of Des Moines, Barry (Cindy) Robertson of Ottumwa; and three stepdaughters, Gail (John) Yurgel of Kansas City, KS, Sue (Doug) Witt of Cedar and Linda (Brad) Van Englehoven of Oskaloosa; his grandchildren, Bill and Kevin Hawkins and Chris and Nicole Bauer; three great- grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; three brothers: Vince (Donna) Bauer of Newton; Jim (Helen) Bauer of Newton; and Martin (Darlene) Bauer of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and four brothers, Gerold, Flavin, Herbert and Hugh Bauer.
