Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 11-20-1991:

George R. Putney, 79, of Indianola died of a stroke Tuesday at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Indianola IOOF Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Putney, a retired farmer, was born in Omaha and lived in Indianola 61 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church, a charter member of Hosier Row Community Center and a soil conservation worker.

Surviving are his wife, Lucile; two sons, Darrell and Donald, both of Indianola; a brother, Bill of Leon; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday at Overton Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
