Claude Hess, 91, of Indianola died of pneumonia Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Westview of Indianola Care Center. Services were held Sept. 9 at Overton Funeral Home, with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Mr. Hess was born in Kahokia, Mo., and had lived in Indianola for more than 60 years. He was a retired tire builder and forklift operator with Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Des Moines and enjoyed gardening, tulips and bowling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia "Billie."

Survivors include four sons, George of Polk City, Charles of Indianola, Norman of Mesa, Ariz., and Timothy of Des Moines; two daughters, Virginia Plummer of Tucson, Ariz., and Becky Clark of Indianola; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Indianola.
