Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 9-2-1991:

Bernard James Hess, 49, of Elmo died of cancer Thursday at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville, Ia., with burial in Gullion Cemetery near Attica, Ia.

Mr. Hess was born in Indianola, Ia., and lived there before moving to Elmo a year and a half ago. He was a driver for Ben Shinn Trucking in Knoxville.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Cindy Hess of Elmo, Robin Lambertz of Des Moines and Patti Hess of Indianola; two sons, Michael of Elmo and Jimmy Schief of Des Moines; his parents, Claude and Cornelia Hess of Indianola; two sisters, Virginia Plummer of Tucson, Ariz., and Becky Clark of Indianola; four brothers, Norman of Kingman, Ariz., George of Polk City, Ia., Charlie of Indianola, and Tim of Des Moines; and six grandchildren.
