Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 11-6-2001:

Leonard Eugene Carlsen, 76, of Newton died of a heart attack Sunday at home. The body was cremated, and graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Indianola.

Mr, Carlsen was born in Laurens and had lived in Newton since 1956. He was a senior sales representative with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and had been a funeral director. He was a Navy veteran of World War ll and a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo; a daughter, Cindy Moore of Newton; two brothers, Carl of Casper, Wyo., and Kermit of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Evelyn Calmer of Manson and Helen Carlsen of Topeka, Kan.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
