Obituary from the News Chief newspaper, Winter Haven, Polk County, Florida, USA on 1-31-2009:

Michael Jon Nelson, son of Kenneth and Ruby Nelson, was born February 10th, 1943 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Michael died January 17th, 2009 after struggling with pancreatic cancer for the past six months. He had been living in Lake Wales, Florida for the past five years.

Michael attended West Ward Grade School and Osceola High School until his senior year. In 1960, the family moved to Florida and Michael graduated from Winter Haven, Florida high school in 1961. After high school, Michael joined the Air Force and spent most of his service time in Turkey.

Michael was blessed with two daughters, Nicki Luciano, Michelle Mann and an adopted daughter, Lynn Nelson. All daughters presently reside in Florida. Also left to cherish his memory are his sisters and brother, Dixie West and Monte Nelson of Cincinnati, Ohio and Debbie Nelson of Florida. He will be greatly missed by all including two close friends of Florida, Sandy Hall and Donna Wagner.

The relatives who preceded Michael in death were his parents, Kenneth and Ruby Nelson, and nephew Maverick West.

Michael's favorite pastimes were shooting billiards, cooking and listening to country music. As a youngster, it was difficult for his father to keep him out of the pool hall. He spent many years cooking in a Country Club in Florida.

Memorial services will be held in Ankeny, Iowa July 4th, 2009. Officiating will be Michael's cousin, Reverend Rob Jones.
