Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 1-17-2003:

Tom R. Lyon, 52, of Motor died of a gunshot wound Monday near his home. The death has been ruled a homicide. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church in Indianola.

Mr. Lyon was born in Pleasantville and had lived there as a youth. He had lived in the Motor area since 1971. He was a farmer and had raised livestock. He had served in the Iowa National Guard. He was the self-appointed mayor of the unincorporated town of Motor and had served on the Warren County Fair Board and Fair Queen Committee. He was a Belmont Township trustee and enjoyed his cattle, John Deere equipment and camping at the Iowa State Fair.

He is survived by his wife, Ronda; a son, Bart of London, England; a daughter, Cheri Lyon of Chicago; his mother, Frances Lyon, and two sisters, Patty Collins and Peggy Hotovec, all of Pleasantville; and two brothers, Bobby of Pleasantville and Jack of Lacona.

Memorial contributions may be made to Motor Friends Church, the Milo Fire Department or the Warren County Fair. Overton Funeral Home in Indianola is handling arrangements.
