Obituary from The Des Moines Register newspaper, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA on 3-12-2001:

Raymond V. Sargent, 83, of rural New Virginia died of leukemia Saturday at Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, with burial at Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery there.

Mr. Sargent was born in Warren County and had lived in rural New Virginia for 60 years. He had worked for Iowa Meat Packing House and was a butcher and farmer. He enjoyed making music boxes.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; two sons, Floyd of Redwood City, Calif., and Melvin of Des Moines; two brothers, Keith of Indianola and Clyde of Redwood City, Calif.; a sister, Helen Killam of Lady Lakes, Fla.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Medora Methodist Church or Shriners Children's Hospital.
