CHARLOTTE STICKEL, Des Moines

Charlotte (Beardsley) Stickel, 90, of Des Moines (formerly of New Virginia) died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines.

Charlotte Shane Stickel, the daughter of William Shane Beardsley and Charlotte Ellen Manning Beardsley, was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Birmingham, Iowa. Charlotte graduated from the New Virginia High School in 1939, and attended the University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to Doyle Eugene Stickel on Sept. 2, 1941, at Albany, Mo. Charlotte was a homemaker, and worked as the school secretary and school board secretary for Interstate 35 Schools. She retired in 1987. Charlotte was a member of Neophyte Chapter #206 O.E.S. in New Virginia and also the New Virginia United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Eugene Stickel; daughter-in-law, Katie Stickel; son, Tom Stickel; brothers, Blaine Beardsley and Billy Beardsley.

She is survived by her son, John Stickel of Des Moines; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Scheig of Mequan, Wisc.; her brother, Dan Beardsley Springfield, Va.; her sister-in-law, Ruth Kinsey of Clarinda; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Friday May 4, with Rev. Charles Downing officiating. Interment was at New Virginia Cemetery in New Virginia. Memorial contributions may be directed to New Virginia United Methodist Church, 301 West Street, New Virginia IA 50210.
