Services for Roy L. Seymour, 76, will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 27 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Pastoral Center, Hwy 92 W, Indianola, with burial following in the Linn Grove Cemetery, rural Norwalk.

Roy, son of Joe and Clara (Reising) Seymour was born on August 18, 1935 in rural Warren county. He passed from this life on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 due to complications from cancer of the liver. Roy grew up on a farm near Prole and graduated from Martensdale High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. After his return, he was united in marriage to Alberta Henson on November 9, 1957. Soon after, Roy started farming and raising his family.

Roy was President of the Wick Field Association for several years. He was also a lifelong member of the Martensdale Lions Club, served on the Martensdale St. Mary’s School Board, served as a Jefferson Township Trustee for numerous year, and various other boards. He was also involved in other civic and community activities including coaching baseball and serving as a 4-H Leader.

In addition to being a lifelong farmer, in 1966, he started Seymour Fertilizer which he and Alberta owned and operated for 40 years. He also served 4 years on the Warren County Board of Supervisors where he fought and stopped the annexation of Greenfield Plaza by Polk County.

Roy’s battle with cancer started August 18, 1965, and three days later he made his first trip to the Mayo Clinic. Roy continued his fight with seven types of cancer spanning 47 years.

Roy’s passions included farming, his work, woodworking and politics. Throughout his life nothing gave him more pleasure than playing with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta; children, Linda (Larry “Bear”) Davis of Patterson, Harold (Pam) Seymour of Norwalk and Roger Seymour of Washington D.C.; brother, Earl (Maggie) Seymour of Norwalk; sisters, Irene Kelly of West Des Moines and Dorothy Seymour and Judy Pierson both of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren Bill Bussanmas, Brenda (James) Bussanmas, Krystal (Josh) Morgan, Bryan (Ashley) Bussanmas, Erin (Jake) Jensen; 15 great-grandchildren, Carter Bussanmas, Mia Jensen, Dylan Morgan, Chloe Bussanmas, Riley Bussanmas, Maci Bussanmas, Lauren Bussanmas, Kylie Bussanmas, Tara Johnson, Jersey Bussanmas, Blake Jensen, Corbin Stewart, Olivia Bussanmas and Spencer Stewart. Preceding him in death were his parents, Joe and Clara (Riesing) Seymour; infant children, Jeanette and Baby Boy; brothers, George, John and Joe Seymour; grandson, Mark Morgan Jr.
