Obituary
Eli Overton, son of Ephraim and Julia Overton, was born September 23, 1864, in Warren County, Iowa where he grew to young manhood and he has spent practically his entire life in this county. On December 6, 1880, he was married to Miss Laura Popejoy. To this union, five children were born. Pete Overton, and Silas Overton of Carlisle, and Russell Overton of Indianola, Mrs. Ethel Gildow, of Carlisle. One son Artie died several years ago. His wife also departed this life in 1897.
Mr. Overton was again married to Rosa Mae German, May 19, 1898. A daughter, Gay was adopted and reared to young womanhood in their home, and she brought much joy and comfort to them, but she too passed away, August 1, 1941. Mrs. Overton also died December 1941. Besides his children, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Milligan of Saskatchewan, Canada, and Mrs. Luella Myers of Carlisle, and three brothers, Elija and Frank Overton of Indianola, and Will Overton of Carlisle. Ten grandchildren and one great grandchild also survives him.
Mr. Overton was well known over the Country having worked for several years for various farmers, and also as a coal miner. After the death of his wife he maintained his home in Carlisle, until about 18 months ago when he met with a tragic accident, from which he never fully recovered and since that time, he has lived at the home of his son Pete Overton and his sister, Mrs. Myer, where he was made as comfortable as possible, but he gradually grew worse, until death came as a sweet release from his long illness, Wednesday, August 22, 1945, at the Myer home in Carlisle, he was almost 81 years of age.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 24th at 2 P.M. at the Carlisle Methodist Church and interment was made in the Carlisle cemetery. Rev. E.E. Josten conducted the services and Mrs. Lois Sweeney and Mrs. Ida Thomas with Mrs. Cheesman as pianist, furnished the music.

Rites Held For Eli Overton

Eli Overton, passed away Wednesday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Tom Myer, after a lingering illness of more than a year.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Carlisle Methodist Church and interment was made in the Carlisle cemetery. Rev.E.E. Josten conducted the services. Mr. Overton was 80 years of age and has lived much of his life in this and the Summerset communities. About 18 months ago, he was badly burned while cleaning off his yard, and he has since been unable to get about. He was confined for several weeks to the hospital and he has since been cared for at the home of his sister and at the home of his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Overton. A number of relatives from Des Moines, Indianola, and other adjacent places came to attend his funeral.
