Epps Rites Set for Thursday
Was retired minister of church here

Services for Joel Francis Epps, 80, of 906 E. Sixth St., who died Monday at the home of his son, Paul Epps, will be held at Dahlstrom’s Funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Laurel Hill cemetery.
Mr. Epps, who came to Des Moines 25 years ago from Summerset, Ia., where he was employed in a coal mine, was ordained a minister of the church of Christ in 1906.
Retired Minister
He was at one time pastor of the former Church of Christ at E. Sixth and Allen Streets. He retired from the active ministry several years ago. Mr. Epps is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha M. Epps, five sons, Albert Epps and Arthur Epps, both of Carlisle, Ia., Harry Epps, of Fort Des Moines, and Walter Epps and Paul Epps, both of Des Moines.
Six Daughters
Six daughters surviving are Mrs. Walter Douglas, and Mrs. Clyde Douglas, both of Indianola, Ia., and Mrs. Arthur King, Mrs. Wilson McDonald, and Mrs. Albert Dennis, all of Des Moines, and Mrs. Glenn Bragg of Chicago, Ill.

Joel Francis Epps Service Thursday

Joel Francis Epps, 80, of 906 E. Sixth st., who died Monday at the home of his son, will be buried in Laurel Hill cemetery following funeral services in Dahlstrom’s funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Epps had been a resident of Des Moines for more than 20 years.

Joel F. Epps wrote this obituary for himself on Nov.25, 1929 (he died September 1934).
Joel Francis Epps was born December 31, 1853 in Putnam County Indiana, came to Iowa in the Fall of 1855, was married to Martha Melvina Overton February 6, 1876. Born to them 14 children, 11 living (as of Nov.25, 1929).
Became a Christian in the year of 1895, called to the ministry in 1906, lived the life until death.
