Cleta (Chandler) "Mickey" Konrad

Mickey was born December 29, 1921 near Lucas, Iowa to Charles and Olive Marker Chandler. She was the oldest of four children.

Mickey was an all-state third baseman for the Lucas Softball Team. While playing softball, her future husband Herb Konrad first saw her and was determined to meet her. A week later, they met at a dance and were married on January 12, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. They were blessed with five children: Jim, Don, Sandy, Deb, and Bob.

Mickey worked many jobs, but she most loved being a mom and grandma. She enjoyed having family and friends to her house for great meals. She always had a smile and had a great outlook on life and loved to work in her flower gardens and enjoyed being outdoors. Music and dancing were an important part of her life as she and Herb often attended local music jamborees with friends.

Mickey passed away January 9, 2010 at the Carlisle Care Center. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Herb in 2000; daughter Deb in 2006; and infant grandson Paul McCullough in 1978. She will be missed by her children: Jim (Cathy) Konrad of Bettendorf, Don (Judy) Konrad of Columbus, NE, Sandy (Greg) McCullough of Carlisle, Bob Konrad of Lacona, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and siblings: Vena Lessy of Deer Trail, CO, Jessie (Boo) Larrington of Chariton and Short (Dorothy) Chandler of Lucas along with many other relatives and friends.
